Major floor tile
distributor goes "Retail"
United Distributors Inc. (UDI), is a flooring and tile distributor has
served Boston area tile contractors with supplies for over 35 years. After many
years of minimizing its retail operations, UDI asked DSA Architects to
re-design it's corporate offices and put a new face on it's retail operation.
Focus on Tile:
Much of the emphasis on this compact, retail area (only 900 s.f.), was the
implementation of many examples of the marble, ceramic, and stone tile which UDI carries.
This was accomplished on several vignettes as shown in the images below. The
floor plan features a multifunctional hexagonal operations desk which serves as a control
point, tile sample display, and layout space.
The entry vestibule (shown above right) was designed to be an elegant
threshold showing off the upscale Italian imported tile for which UDI is the sole
distributor in the area. After passing through the vestibule, the viewer is faced
with 5 integrated display vignettes (2 Kitchen, 3 Bath), and 3 tile sample display racks,
which hinge for easy viewing |
